Spelling Bee Ahead

Hello Guys! This entry is to remind you about our final Spelling Bee for this term next Monday 8th. After our review and homework check-up yesterday in class, I wanted to suggest the Houghton Mifflin web page: http://www.eduplace.com/kids/sv/ , which is our book edition. You can visit this site, look for the Spelling Match, then choose 6 and after that, click on 12 (for the Unit Review). There you´ll find interesting games and other activities that can help you review the words for this contest. Remember to study also their meaning, you may be required to come up with sentences to accomplish the competition this time.

Social Studies: The Roman Empire

Classwork: 
Students presented The Roman Empire, and we discussed the characteristics and facts of this civilization afterwards. 
We completed the following questionnaire: 

1-How is a Replublic different than a Kingdom? 
2-Who were the Plebeians and the Patricians in The Roman Empire? 
3-How is the location of this civilization convenient for it to become so powerful and expand so big? 
4-Name some accomplishments of the Romans that we have improved and still use today. 
5-How did the religious beliefs change during the days of the Romans? 

Homework: due Wednesday 3rd. 
Develop a mental map about the 6 ancient civilizations learned in class. Use key words to mention all possible details and characteristics of each. You can draw and color as much as you want. Remember you will present this assignment on a block-size cardboard, or a blank sheet of paper of any color. Please turn in your homework on time! This may be your only assignment for home and this evaluation is very important! It also help you review for your SOCIAL STUDIES QUIZ on the same day.

Social Studies Questionnaire

The following critical thinking questions will help you study for your Social Studies  Quiz next week. 

You do not have to turn them in for evaluation. This is just guidance!!

Only six of these 10 questions will be picked for the quiz, which will evaluate your analysis of everything we learned in class, and your ability to express your thoughts and ideas. Every answer will be correct if you state your opinion well supported, using examples always help you explain better.

Science: Vertebrate Animals

Classwork:
We worked on Vertebrate Animal characteristics. We copied definitions and learned about cold-blooded and warm-blooded animals. As classwork we classified the Types of Vertebrate Animals  information in the given chart, as done last week. 

Homework: due Wednesday 19th. 
Prepare your presentation about the animal chosen in class. Bring your poster on Wednesday 19th., and get ready for presenting on the date assigned (Thusrday 20th for 6th grade A and C and Friday 21st for 6th grade B: first group students 1 to 14 in the list. Thursday 27th 6th A and C, Friday 28th 6th grade B: second group students 15 to 27 in the list). 

Presentation Outline:
Animal (scientific name) 
Is it vertebrate or invertebrate? Explain.
What kind? Go beyond. 
Describe the animal and mention the most relevant characteristics and important facts of the way it lives and develops. 
How does it feed? How does it hunt and feed the young ones? 
Describe the environment where it lives and how it reproduces. 
Mention the abilities it may have and the way it protects itself from predators and other dangers. 
Is it safe? Or is it in danger to be extinted? What can we do help preserving its life? 
Bring all possible supportive material to help you present confortably and effectively (visual aid, pictures, models, audible aid, etc.) 

Do not hesite for clearing doubts!! 

Pets are NOT allowed in class, this may disturb little animals and the good course of the activity.

Social Studies: Ancient China

Classwork: 

Discussion in class about Ancient China. Compared this civilization to the previous ones, especially on Religious Beliefs and Type of Government. 

We completed the following questionnaire: 

1. What is the major factor that isolated China from the rest of the civilizations, and what was the main consequence of that?

2. How did the Dynasties form in China, and what did they serve as in ancient times?

3. Name the three main religions of this civilization in ancient times, and focus on explaining the teaching of Confucius. 

4. Explain the ¨Silk Road¨ as a Monopoly for the Chinese Civilization.

Spelling Bee Ahead

Hi guys! I hope you are enjoying your weekend after our great Halloween party on Friday. I just want to remind you we have a Spelling Bee ahead next Monday, November 3rd, NEW DATE that we all agreed on moving to. Take some time to rehearse; this is a great opportunity to upgrade your records!!!  



Social Studies: The Ancient Egypt

Science: Air Pollution

Classwork:

Here´s the Science Presentation Air Pollution done this week, and the work done in class for your appreciation and reference.



Homewor: Due Friday 31st. 
Design your own self-sustainable environment. On a piece of cardboard (half-size) or carton plate, desing an ideal environment where you can propose idea on how to solve current air pollution problems. Draw it and color it! You may use other materials such as playd ough or foami if you want.

Note: If you have the desire, you can turn your design into a pollution catcher, by adding Vaseline to the back of the catron plate (this is NOT mandatory, you will only do this if you have the extra time and the materials mentioned available).

Remember to prepare yourselves for the Science Quiz next week, you need to review the following topics on your notebook:

We agreed on a definition for History, and we developed a Mind Map with some factors that have directly affected the evolution of humanity in History:

We reviewed the map of the world, its Hemispheres, its Continents, Oceans and Seas. We draw it and labeled on the notebook.

You can also draw the images you found if you have printing trouble, or visit the school library if you do not have internet access.
